Wiring of Solenoids + diodes.( 21st Feb 2009.)

*****************************************

If using an " J-wale " Decoder board Use a common positive ( + ) wire to each of the solenoids, You can just see this wire on the above photo.

I use thin silver plated wire, or the braided wire from 25 pin "D" type plugs, I use these "D" type Extension cables for ALL my solenoid wiring. They are Cheap and just right for the job.

I use a 1.25 inch Brass panel pin tapped through the windchest and solder the Common + wire to this panel pin.

If you are building a one rank pipe Organ, you will need only one 1N4007 supression diode across the solenoid coil, I put the + end of the diode facing the mounting bracket.

NOTE - If you are building more than one rank you will also need a "Blocking" diode, again a 1N4007, The negative end of this dioe goes to the negative end of the Supression diode.

See picture.

Top left is the euro, (Kettle),mains Plug. Then the speed adjuster for the blower.

The Red Push on Release button if for the Decoder configuration adjustment.

Also the MIDI IN / THRU Sockets.

The Hole is so the Decoders Green L.E.D. can be seen.

These are the Electrics fitted into the windchest

The larger transformer, on the left is 240 vac input , fitted with a rectifier, capacitor and big diode, to give 12 volts D.C. Output, This will feed the 64 note Decoder which powers the Pallet Magnets.

(The Decoders I use are From  www.j-omega.co.uk .  John Wale ).

The outputs from the decoder are NEGATIVE , hence the need for the common positive to ALL the solenoids.

The small transformer has an variable input ang gets its AC power from the small black speed controller fitted between the transformers. This will be connected to the blower, The small blowers I use can run on D.C. or A.C. up to approximately 30 volts.

This is the way I mount the blower or blowers.
