Experimental Fairground Carousel

With Built in "Real" Pipe Organ

With not much to do one day, I was looking for another project, which was Pipe Organ related. So , I had a look on the internet for some likely item,and found that a Fairground type Carousel caught my eye.

I then trawled the net for how to build one, but could find no specific details of how these Carousels worked.I decided to figure it out myself.

Well , I thought it could'nt be to difficult !! , How wrong I was.

The first thing to do was think about the drive system and how to get the drive to operate the actual rotation and the "Ups & downs" for the horses etc.

I made 4 horses and a basic structure, the picture shows how far I have progressed.

The little 25 note pipe organ will fit on the central plinth along with a small integral Blower & power supply.

I'll keep on adding text & photos as I carry on the building.

This will eventually be for sale on eBay,when it's finished, I will leave it "unpainted" so the Buyer can paint it to his/her taste.

Carousel - Basic idea

These are the Horses, cut out of M.D.F.

BELOW -----Main carousel drive unit, fitted on top of windchest.

19 wooden & 6 metal Organ pipes.

Fitted to a removable base.

This is screwed to the windchest top.

The power supply for the chest magnets, blower & 32 note midi decoder, will be fitted next to the Blower feed pipe.

octagonal windchest with small blower fitted into soundproof box.

Drive unit will drive a central drive tube,to be fixed at the top to the rotating frame.

Below is the underside of the chest,fitted with 25 "Chest Magnets".

Also shown is the Blower connecting pipe.
